 | While I also recommend Handbrake, I don't recommend setting the framerate manually, rather in most situations it should be kept as "same as source". Changing the framerate can cause issues when transcoding such as audio desync or stuttery video. This is because most videos are in 23.997 fps or 29.997 fps. If it's the latter, the difference will probably be imperceptible, but if it is the former it will have a harder time fitting what is essentially 24fps into 30. Do be sure to include any audio and subtitle streams you want because by default it goes with the default audio stream and no subtitles. An alternative to reencoding is remuxing. There are several options. One is ffmpeg. The syntax to remux from mkv to mp4 isn't too difficult and in my test case was able to even remux a file with flac audio. Next is xmedia recode. Unfortunately in my test, it couldn't handle the file with flac audio, it defaulted to no audio and including it caused it to try to convert the audio stream which resulted in a massive amount of quality loss. Lastly, is mkvtoolnix. This one can't remux to mp4 or other formats, but mkv is commonly supported now a days and remuxing to mkv is easy with it.You can use it for different things like fixing audio and subtitle labels, set defaults, add or remove tracks and so on so forth.  | A bit out of date but at least in circles I was in Handbrake was pretty well known in 2019. I actually don't recommend ordinary users use it, I prefer Vidcoder. It is also free and open source. It uses Handbrake as its encoding engine, but it has a much better user interface and utilizes handbrake features that in the handbrake program itself are only accessible through very obscure text commands you'd have to manually enter. Notable differences: It lets you encode small preview clips. It lets you rotate videos. It supports more audio types and has full support for passthrough of many audio types. And it is multi-threaded so it can work faster than normal Handbrake. And, what I really like, and, stay with me here, it allows you to upscale which Handbrake won't let you do. I know, why would you want to do that? Blasphemy you say? Well hold on, a very simple case you'd want to do that is to convert a video with non-square pixels to square pixels. This is an extremely common case with every single anamorphic DVD video. Typically these videos are stored at 720px by 480px. Rarely anything is actually displayed that way, as it's a 3x2 ratio. You have typically three options, 2.35:1 (standard widescreen, displaying at 1128x480), 1.33:1 (4x3 or standard 480p SD, displaying at 640x480), or 1.78:1 (16x9 or the same ratio common in Full HD, displaying at 853x480). These are done in non-square pixels and a video player or DVD player would stretch or squeeze it to the intended ratio. If you want to store the video as square pixels, which can help prevent display errors (surprisingly common these days actually and some programs don't even support anamorphic display) or get better results with other efforts to process the video (like if you actually wanted to upscale it in something like Topaz AI, or just simply process it with various filters in another program), Handbrake will not allow you to do so for the case of 2.35 :1 or 1.78:1. It will only let you for 1.33:1. There's nothing lost or gained here by stretching it out as it always will be anyway. To do this in Handbrake you need to enter obscure and finnicky text commands.  | You really undersold Bitwarden's features. It will detect when you're creating an account or updating your password and offer to add/update the record in the vault. Additionally, you don't have to individually copy/paste the user+pass on most sites; just clicking the entry while you're on a login page will send the text input to the two fields. It also has a speed indicator to show your current transfer speeds. BlueScreenView (Nirsoft) - If you enable crash dumps, then after a crash, you can view a report on what caused the crash.  | I've replaced the need for building individual Rufus bootable drives by using Ventoy. You basically create one bootable USB stick that you can just drag as ISO many ISOs you want or have rooom for onto. It will allow you to create machines (physical or VM) in BIOS or EUFI mode from one drive. I have one 128 GB USB that lets me install pretty much any OS including versions of any windows version I have an ISO for, lots of Linux ISOs including LIVE ISOs, Bootable diagnostic ISOs (Gparted, Clonezilla, a bootable Windows 10 ISO similar to Hirens). Since the USB stick isn't in a weird format you can also copy any other utilities or files over to be accessible from your newly installed OS so their handy. Even though they say "we can't see your password" . If they can encrypt the file they can surely decrypt the file. I really like rufus I've gotten it to work on other ISO's but could never get it to work with windows. I've always had to use powershell and split the install.wim file to make it work. Its a really good file manager with some very useful features, like being able to open compressed files like zip files directly in the explorer window, easily check file sizes, rename multiple files in an advanced way like adding numbers to them all or replacing some parts with something else. FTP support, IrfanView - Best free image viewer and converter. Well, there might be better ones out there now, but this one has so many features, and formats supported.  | My favorite shareware software only lived for a short while as they lost a court case. The software allowed you to recompress/optimize the executable of any program. My first time hearing this I thought wow! What a useless program! So I tried it anyway. I started optimizing all .exe I used from word to quake to notepad and often times it worked without any issues. After optimizing the .exe I often found that the newly created modified .exe was running faster and smaller. Sometimes that 15 meg sized exe was whittled down to 400k. What I like about Handbrake is its capability of using x265 codec with variable framerate & bitrate. Bitwarden may also be used as a standalone password manager.  | Developed since this video in Ventoy. It formats a USB stick with a MBR boot record, UEFI partition, and main storage partition with the executable. Then copy all the ISOs you want to the storage partition. Then when you boot Ventoy come up and creates a Grub boot menu listing all the ISO. When you pick the ISO then it runs like it was the only thing on the USB stick, usually display various boot options included in that ISO.
